Modestly-sized Red Ship of Life - PDF
This piece was made as an homage to the antique weavings made in Sumatra called Tampan or ship cloths. They were used in various ceremonies and contained all sorts of motifs that were symbolic of the important things in these peoples' lives. My design is not a reproduction of one specific cloth, but more a collection of my favorite bits from dozens of examples. I've tried to remain true to the spirit of these fantastically elaborate weavings.
This is a fairly big chart, although smaller than the "Big Red Ship of Life." I know you'll enjoy it as it unfolds to reveal a fully populated menagerie along with all types of humans and plants.
