Athene noctua

Regular price $8.00 $0.00

The little owl, Athene noctua, is the traditional representation of Athena, the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology. This design reflects the imprint on the ancient silver tetradrachm coin that was used in Athens and all of the Greek empire around 450 BC. Little owls (that is really their species name) inhabit temperate parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa, but the Athenian coin is much harder to find.  Design size is 81 stitches square. Stitched with Gentle Arts and DMC threads on 32 count "Linen" linen by Weeks Dye Works. A DMC conversion for the GAST threads used is provided.
